did and see Galaxy Fold is Ready to Rise Again!
Earlier in 2019, the grandfather of Fold series was released limitedly. Samsung decided to send it to selected reviewers before a formal public whatsmind launch. Turned out, they found a small bulge on the review unit, which can be felt under the finger. Most reviewers reported that the screen came already defected in some cases and the hinge was causing a discernible bulge near it.
The journalists and reviewers said that the screen flickered for a while before completely blacking out. They also reported that they removed a thin film they thought was to be taken off at first (which might have contributed to the issue), but it was meant to stay on. The thin film appears to be removable from the left corner, thus confusing.
The misconception started when the reviewers thought it was just a screen protector, making the screen spaz and blackout. One of the doingbuzz reviewers tweeted a picture of instructions on the package asking the users to avoid removing that protective layer or applying one.
The Verge’s editor Dieter Bohn claimed that he didn’t remove the protective layer and still faced the same issue of screen flickering and blacking out after just one day of use. Dieter also said that the hinge was defective, causing a bulge and distorted the screen. Eventually showing signs that it might break altogether.
Samsung soon replaced all the reportedly damaged review units and stated that they will inspect these units in person to determine the reason for damage. Earlier, Samsung claimed to test the phone’s folding mechanism about 200,000 times, declaring that it passed the durability threshold. Their statement went on to say that the protective layer removed by most reviewers is a part of the display structure and they will ensure the clear deliverance of this information to the customers.
Delayed Release
As an aftermath of these PR disasters, Samsung postponed two press events in Asia, and SamMobile reported Fold’s delayed release in China. Later, they announced to delay the launch of its Galaxy Fold in the US, indefinitely. They also assured that they will immediately work on improving the durability of the display and make communication about the protective layer more clear.Samsung soon replaced all the reportedly damascuscollections damaged review units and stated that they will inspect these units in person to determine the reason for damage.
